Other Possibilities

When working on my art projects I like to count the hours I spend working. I mark the hours off on a piece of paper taped to the wall. I’ve been doing this for years now. I feel more secure this way. I realise quality of output is more important than time spent but since I started this routine, I cannot seem to stop.

When I came back from my last holiday I was surprised to find a dead possum in the garden near the washing line, trapped in a bright yellow possum trap. It looked like a cat from the back and gave me quite a fright. I was afraid it might still be alive; I didn’t put my washing out that day.

If worries were things, like worms for example, I expect they would burrow right into you; make convoluted routes through and within the digestive system; sometimes crossing and colliding with one another, sometimes not.

In the fabric collages of my Other Possibilities project, text and motifs are used to represent everyday occurrences, curious facts, and anxiety-driven internal dialogue. I am interested in the point at which everyday triviality becomes humorous or strange. I like things that are poetic yet down to earth.
